Relief for Marawi

Many civilian lives were lost, over a billion-worth of properties were damaged and numbers of internally displaced persons were increasing every day caused by conflict in Marawi.

The Duterte Cabinet Spouses Association Inc. is taking initiative to gather relief goods for the victims of the said conflict and goods to support and boost the morale of our troops. The initiative was materialized through the collaboration with the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) making 53RD Engineer Brigade Headquarters a drop off point in Cebu City for donations in Marawi.

The Brigade being the bastion of peace and upholds to support the socio economic programs of the government has even offered the OPAV its subordinate units spread all over Visayas area to be the drop off points should there be similar requirement within their area of operations.

The first two organizations who heed the call are the Sacred Heart School Batch ’85 Foundation and the Regional Development Council-7 who handed over a total of 12,600 kgs of rice, 16,192 pcs of canned goods, 2,000 pcs blanket and 2,000 pcs mosquito net. These were repacked by the personnel of 53E Brigade in the 2,000 pails donated by anonymous donor.

The handover of donations was ceremonially received by COL LYNDON J SOLLESTA, the Deputy Commander of 53E which was witnessed by the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas himself Secretary Michael Dino.

On July 11, 2017, the 2,000 packs of relief goods were formally turned over by OPAV to Ms Cielito “Honeylet” Avanceña, Chairwoman of the DCSAI at the Central Command Grandstand, Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City. This was followed by a Send-off Ceremony the next day at the Naval Forces Central, Brgy Looc, Mactan spearheaded by the DCSAI President, Ms Marissa Aguirre.

The relief goods were loaded by 53E Engineers, Navy personnel and civilian volunteers to the Landing Craft 299 “BRP BATAK” and were shipped to Iligan City which is the closest port in Marawi City.
