Brief History
Vietnam People's Army
The Vietnam People’s Army was established on 22 December 1944. The Vietnam
People’s Army is an army of working class nature, national identity and
humanitarian trait, an army from the people and for the people. It fights for
national independence and freedom, socialism people’s happiness.
Over the past 62 years since its inception, led by the Communist Party of
Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, loved by the Vietnamese people, supported by
the peoples and armies who love peace, independence and freedom, the Vietnam
People’s Army has been displaying the tradition of patriotism, fighting
valiantly and extensively, winning wars of aggression, accomplishing glorious
feats or arms and bringing peace, independence and freedom to the homeland.
Nowadays, the Vietnam People’s Army plays the central role in strengthening
the all-people national defense. Together with the entire Communist Party and
Vietnamese nation, the Vietnam people’s Army struggles to maintain political
stability, safeguard people’s peaceful life, make the people’s prosperous, the
country powerful, the society equitable, democratic and civilized.
The Vietnam People’s Army is honored by the people’s as Hero Army, “Uncle
Ho’s soldiers”. It has been awarded four Gold-Star Medals, the most honorable
decoration in Vietnam. Thousand of army units and individual have become Hero of
People’s Armed Forces and Hero of Labor and other noble medals. The Vietnam
People’s Army shows, according to Ho Chi Minh words its “Loyalty to the Party,
piety to the people, readiness to fight and die for homeland independence and
freedom, for socialism, to accomplish any given mission, to overcome any
obstacle, to defeat any enemy”.
Following the past achievements, Vietnam People’s Army continues to make
itself revolutionary, regular, sophisticated and increasingly modern,
participate actively in developing the national economy, maintain its key factor
in fostering a mighty all-people national defense, contribute to building and
defending the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, safeguarding peace, stability,
development in the region and in the world.
