HISTORY

Special Services Unit, ASCOM, PA was formerly known as Army Special Services Division (ASSD) as its first Commanding Officer or Chief, ASSD. It was renamed SSU pursuant to Section II GO Nr 71, HPA dated 20 April 1986 under the Service Support Brigade, Philippine Army. On 16 January 1998, it was absorbed by the Army Support Command pursuant to GO Nr 127 HPA dated 28 January 1998.

The incumbent Commanding Officer, COL GENER P DEL ROSARIO CAV (GSC) PA is the 20th Commanding Officer of the unit. The unit is continuously doint its role not only for the Army but also for the AFP by implementing its uniques mission which is "To plan, implement, monitor the Army physical firness program and to maintain and improve the sports and recreational facilities of Headquarters Philippine Army". The Army, through SSU, produced living soldier heroes in the arena of sports like, boxing, basketball, wrestling, cycling, athletics, football, volleyball, chess, baseball, taekwondo, swimming, sepak takraw, arnis, dragonboat, lawn tennies, table tennis, weightlifting, tiathlon, karate-do, marathon and softball.
