For the first semester days, The (564th Engineer Construction Battalion, (Southern Tagalog Builders) 51st Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army has remain vigilant in its toes, braving the odds and coping with the everyday challenges that an organization has to face.

All these laudable deeds can be attributed to the corps of personnel who devotedly, zealously and in the spirit of excellence performed their individual and collective tasks.

Military Projects:

For the first quarter of this year, various projects in 2ID and ARESCOM were being undertaken by the unit. Notable completed projects in 2ID included the construction of two of units ten (10) door apartment housing facilities and Battalion Retraining Facilities Classroom, water System and the Medical/Dental Repair Project. As of this writing, the second 10- door apartment project is now on its finishing touches and just completing its additional outside facilities, and soon ready for turn-over to the end users. If completed the apartment will be solely for the enlisted personnel and their families, as the existing apartment number (1) one has already been completed and awarded to the officers.

The construction of Medical and Dental facilities at HQS ARESCOM, PA Camp Riego De Dios, Tanza, Cavite. is another major project also being undertaken by Southern Tagalog Builders at The said facilities have already 65% accomplishment as of this date. The Medical/Dental facilities will served as the primary health care to the personnel of ARESCOM as well as ROTC cadets undergoing schooling and training at said camp.

Civil Military Operations:

For the past months, the Southern Tagalog Builders has been of service to anyone, anywhere, anytime to hunt for peace and progress. The unit not only has remained as a construction force, but has been peace oriented force that has become a significant factor in obtaining the goodwill and support of the populace in the nation peace building efforts.

In Sta Cruz, Laguna, the unit entered into partnership with NGOs and other civil society groups in doing a GAWAD KALINGA Housing Project the 564ECB joined in building of at least 25 low units housing facility for the poorest of the poor in Sta Cruz, Laguna. The worthy endeavor by sending a construction force to the project has earned praises and admirations from the NGOs and civil society groups particularly the Philippine Society Group based in Nagoya, Japan.

On Environmental Responsibility, the unit has also contributed to the environmental protection program of the government. In commemoration with the PA’s 144th Foundation Anniversary last March 22, the unit conducted its own tree planting activity in cooperation with Laguna’s NGOs and LGOs. The Southern Tagalog Builders were able to plant varieties of seedlings along creeks and river that are threatened by soil erosion.

For the school year 2011, the unit joined the Brigada Eskwela 2011, an annual program activity of DepEd, wherein different units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are sent to different Public Schools to help students and Parent Teachers Association in preparing their schools for the opening of classes. The unit has sent its construction team to the Los Banos, National High School, Los Banos Laguna, fully armed with construction tools and cleaning equipment, broom sticks, dust pans, shovels and other equipment. Benefitted from the worthy endeavor were more or less 1,000 students and PTA of the said National High School.

It is easy to count the accomplishment of the Engineer Soldiers if only to summarize in Mathematical Figures. But what matters most and makes the Engineer Soldiers feel proud of their noble achievement is the unquantifiable value of their work accorded to the unit. The Engineer Soldier assumes a variety of roles. To each and every member of the unit, what counts is to be of service to anyone, anywhere, and anytime. (loversky88)
