AFP and US ENGINEERS COMPLETE BALIKATAN PROJECT

Pio Duran, Albay - The 3km Farm to market Road connecting Brgy Malidong to Brgy Buenavista in Pio Duran was finally completed on April 24, 2009, five (5) days ahead of its target date and turned over to the local government officials. A coastal road 66 km from Legaspi City, Albay is said to link the Municipality of Pio Duran to Donsol, Sorsogon, the tourism haven of Bicol.

 

In simple but memorable ceremony, the project and part of the Exercise RP-US “Balikatan 2009” Engineer Civic Action Project (ENCAP) was inaugurated and blessed on April 28, 2009 and graced by the Secretary of National Defense, Gilberto Teordoro, US Ambassador Christie Kenney, SOLCOM Commander LTGEN DELFIN BANGIT, Albay Governor Jose Ma Clemente Salceda, 3rd District of Bicol Representative, Cong Reno Lim and Pio Duran Mayor Dante Arandia. Also present were the US and AFP Military Commanders, local officials, members of the Media and the jubilant populace of Malidong and Buenavista.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The project was implemented by the Philippine Army Engineers of the 565th Engineer Construction Battalion, 51st Engineer Brigade and US Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit whose mission is undertake infrastructure projects that intend to improve the socio-economic condition of the people, especially those living in far flung communities.
