Another Journey to the Last Frontier
Pag-Asa (Hope) island, the biggest island in the Kalayaan Group of Islands has a 34 hectare land area located west of Puerto Princesa City was declared a municipality and is being occupied by a majority of AFP Western Command personnel to establish superficial protection in its national territory. During the visit of then CSAFP Gen Hermogenes C Esperon last March 29 2007 paved the idea to build Two Transient Facilities to improve troop housing and as billeting for future civilian guests, The 51st Engineer Brigade was chosen to be the project administrator and directed the Engineer Maintenance Battalion as the implementing unit.
The development of Pag-Asa paves a way for future eco-tourism, scientific and environmental research, with vast deposit of natural oil, minerals and gas exploration the area will definitely turn into an economic zone and development although the two Transients Facilities may seem small this will provide our troops a modest but descent billeting facility and boost their morale this is our way of showing our support to our fellow comrades.
