HISTORY

The Engineer Maintenance and Support Battalion (Provisional), 51st Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army originated from the three (3) deactivated units of the 51 Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army, namely the Assistant Chief of Staff for Maintenance Branch, G9; the Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistical Branch, G4 and the 505th Engineer Maintenance Company, 51st Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army. It came into being on 09 November 1988 pursuant to General Orders Number 178, Headquarters, 51st Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army dated 10 November 1988. Its personnel and equipment came from the three (3) deactivated units of the 51st Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army. The mission of the Engineer Maintenance and Support Battalion (Provisional) is “TO PROVIDE DIRECT AND GENERAL SUPPORT MAINTENANCE FOR ALL ENGINEER AND ALLIED EQUIPMENTS OF THE BRIGADE AND TO SUPERVISE AND UNDERTAKE SPECIAL PROJECTS WHEN DIRECTED” while its specific functions is to provide field maintenance for organic engineer/ordnance equipments; perform limited general support maintenance to engineer/ordnance equipments of the line units; operate and maintain heavy equipments not available in the Construction Battalions; provide and install bridging facilities; operate and maintain quarry site and to undertake special projects when directed. It is organized into four (4) support companies namely, the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, the Engineer Equipment and Maintenance Company, the Special Projects Company and the Support Company. LIEUTENANT COLONEL SALVADOR S LUCZON O-99496 GENERAL STAFF CORPS (PHILIPPINE ARMY) CORPS OF ENGINEERS was designated as the first Battalion Commander of the unit.
