For almost a year, the 564th Engineer Construction Battalion was silent just like a busy bee moving from one project to another, nothing can be heard except for a few significant events, like visit of PMA Class- 2011 and some VIPs, turn-over ceremony of completed projects or movement of engineer equipment from the battalion headquarters to different municipalities in the unit’s area of operations.
However, on the 20th day of May 2010, after more than a year of project implementations, the unit take a short break for the celebration of”PASASALAMAT 2010”. The activity was conducted to give due recognition to the efforts of organic personnel, as well as military personnel from other units and civilian partners/stakeholders whom during the trying times, supported the unit and became partners during the implementation of the Kalayaan Barangays Program (KBP) projects.
The PASASALAMAT 2010 is a one day activity participated in by all personnel of the battalion. Activity started in the morning with the Engineer Squad Competition to test the skills and capability of the engineer soldiers. The engineer squad is composed of a nine man team headed by a construction foreman with four masons/carpenters and four heavy equipment operators who were tested in their mastery in vertical and horizontal constructions. Major prizes waited for those to be adjudged as Best Engineer Squad.
In the afternoon, a Thanksgiving Mass was officiated by LTC SIEGFRED OMAYAO, the Brigade Chaplain followed by the ribbon cutting and blessing of the newly repaired Multipurpose Building with no less than the Brigade Commander, 51EBde, BGEN FELIZARDO A SIMOY as the Guest of Honor and Speaker. Among those who graced the occasion were COL RD SANTILLAN, the Deputy Brigade Commander; COL ARNOLD F FERNANDEZ, CO, EMSBn; COL ARTHUR MACOGAY, Brigade IG and the AGI Team; MAJ ARNEL F FERNANDEZ, Chief, 112th Contracting Office; other brigade staff officers and the Brigade Officers Ladies Club led by Mrs Bonnie Ann Simoy and Mrs Lut Lira, the Adviser and President of the club respectively who spared their precious time with the unit.
The highlight of the activity is the Quarterly Socials wherein the “Pasasalamat Bags” were distributed to organic personnel of the unit. Likewise, plaques of appreciations were awarded to deserving military personnel and civilian partners/stakeholders who have supported in the implementation of Kalayaan Barangays Program. The Brigade Commander in his inspirational message congratulated and commended the officers and men of the battalion for a job well done and likewise expressed his grateful appreciation to military personnel from other units and civilian partners/stakeholders who supported the unit towards the accomplishment of its mission.
With the present leadership of the unit, it has closely supervised and motivated all personnel involved in the undertaking to commitment and pride. The personnel behind have worked beyond the normal working days and hours, sacrificing personal comfort and much needed rest, only to complete the job before its given target date.
