565th ARMY ENGINEERS’ CONTINUES TO FLAUNT GOOD DEEDS IN THE BICOLANDIA

THE 565TH Engineer Battalion, 51st Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army based in Camp Wenee Martillana, San Jose Pili, Camarines Sur, is considered a “very essential battalion” for the infrastructure development in Bicol region.

The battalion was not as much heard of in the level of different Provincial Capitols of Albay, Sorsogon and Camarines Sur in the past few years. Only the municipalities down to its barangay had line their good deeds.

But the battalion caught Capitol’s attention when series of Kalayaan Barangays Program (KBP) Projects turnovers were conducted to their level.

I was amazed with the gargantuan accomplishment you’ve done to the province,” Provincial Treasurer Prilla representative of Camarines Sur Governor during the Turn Over of Completed KBP Projects for Camarines Sur conducted in the Provincial Capitol Convention Center, Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur last 18 June 2010 told the officers and troops led by BGen Felizardo A Simoy,Brigade Commander.

The Turn over ceremony in the Cam Sur Provincial Capitol is just one of the various ceremonies conducted whenever KBP Projects are completed, this time in the Provincial Capitol although previously in the municipalities concerned.

The Cam Sur KBP completed projects are joint efforts of 565th, 564th and 514th ECB of 51st Engineer Brigade, however the bulkiness were completed by 565th Engineers’ the unit primarily assigned in the region. KBP is a government initiative intended to transform conflict- affected communities into peace and development areas through accelerated barangay- focused rehabilitation and development programs.

The 565th Engineers covers the entire Bicol Region (Region 5) and is respected not only by the people who benefited from their projects but by the rebels in areas where the Army engineers are working. The engineers only cater to infrastructure projects in areas where private companies or contractors are unable to work because of for security reasons.

What the 565th Engineers’ built …..

In the KBP of 2005 in Bicol, there were 129 projects consisting of 64 School Buildings, 26 Farm- to -Market Roads and 39 Water Systems in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur and Sorsogon worth P115.30M completed by 565ECB. For the 2nd batch of KBP of 2008 these in 13 Barangays of four Municipalities of Albay. Each barangays, with recipients of a school building, farm- to- market road, health center and water system worth P4.5M per barangay or a total of P58.5M for the whole Albay Province.

In the province of Camarines Sur, KBP of 2009 were constructed in 35 barangays located in the municipalities of Bato, Calabanga, Bula, Iriga City, Del Gallego, Sipocot and Lupi.

During the Turn - over Ceremony in the Provincial Capitol last 18 June 2010, 565th ECB along with the 514th and 564 ECB’s turned over to the Provincial government of Camarines Sur - 138 completed infrastructure projects composed of 28 school buildings, 31 water systems, 41 farm to market roads, 20 health centers and 18 electrifications worth P175M. /

Likewise, dental and medical services to the recipients of KBP Projects were conducted during the ceremony with the Brigade Officers ladies, volunteer civilian and government medical and dental doctors and dentists offering their services

The author as the new commander of 565ECB effective 1 April 2010, always urged local government units to avail themselves of the services of the 565th Engineers’ – “The Bicol Builders” are always prompt to every given construction task.
