“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success” – Henry Ford
It has been more than a year since typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) created his history here in our country, leaving hundreds of families homeless, if not, devastated. But the essence of humanity and selflessness of fellow people have given hope to these families to start a new life.
The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Philippine Red Cross, Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor, the Local Government of Rizal and the Team Army Engineers have joined forces to create a group in which its primary mission is to build a community to those families whose houses were shattered by typhoon Ondoy. It takes not just a certain organization but a collective effort of all to build not just a house but a home to these families.
We, the Team Army Engineers of the 51st Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army under the leadership of BGEN FELIZARDO A SIMOY AFP through its implementing arm, the current Best Battalion of the Year of the brigade, the 564th Engineer Construction Battalion headed by LTC MEDARDO F CLARITO CE (GSC) PA, the Battalion Commander has given the
privilege by the higher command
to partake in creating new hope and giving a new beginning
to these less fortunate people. The task of the Team 564th
ECB is to undertake the Phase I of gravelling of road nets
and drainage system of the proposed Shelter Project of
Philippine Red Cross and International Federation of the Red
Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The said project is
located at Sitio Sumilang, Brgy San Jose, Antipolo city. The
Phase I of gravelling of road nets and drainage system was
started last 24 July 2010 with Charlie Company, 564th
ECB as its implementing unit. With a high sense of
professionalism, dedication and utmost commitment of each
member of Team 564th ECB, the project is now at
its finalization stage, aiming to complete on the second
week of December 2010.
Seeing our vision “Going beyond winning the hearts and minds of people” come into realization is our greatest achievement. Witnessing honest smile from the faces of the children and receiving a sincere “thank you” from their parents is what give us an inspiration to give our best, to share our knowledge and skills to complete our mission. To them, it is an early Christmas gift from heavens above. To us, it is the greatest accomplishment – to become a tool in creating new hope and new beginning to them.
