SAVE THE TULLAHAN RIVER

        The Save Tullahan River is the project of NADESCOM in participation with the 51st Engineer Brigade in cleaning-up the water ways along Tullahan River from various solid waste and debris generated with in the vicinity. This is also in support for the invitation of the Caritas Novaliches in their weekly clean-up drive campaign which would start from North Tullahan River down to Barangay Sta Lucia in Quezon City.

       On 09 October 2010, the first day of Tullahan River Campaign twenty combined personnel from the Brigade led by CPT MAJAN M SAHIAL was sent to HQS AFPNADESCOM for briefing and consolidation prior to dispatch. The clean-up drive started with the use of two rubber boats, sacks and garbage bag brought by the participating units of NADESCOM while the team 51st Engineers uses their shovel and bolos to clean the river water ways and with the assistance of people living along the river vicinity. Local Government Unit and the MMDA also joined the swept off and removal of bulky garbage and debris using their available equipment. Before the team left the area almost 200 sacks of garbage were collected and disposed off properly.

       On 16 October 2010, team led by 1LT CHESTER ARNEL M ORDONIO was sent. This time the area of cleaning operation is the water way under Tullahan Bridge and its nearby vicinity. With the participation of Sangguniang Kabataan of the Barangay and direct residents living along the river the cleaning operation goes smoothly and were able to collect nearly 150 sacks of various solid waste mostly coming from the housholds. Before the team left the area a tarpaulin was placed near the Tullahan Bridge to remind the residents about the importance of the river.

       On 13 November 2010, the river esteros selected for cleaning was thickly populated and over crowded with the presence of household structures erected contributes the clogging of various waste generated in the area particularly used cloths, plastic bags and styrofor. The participating teams of NDSC and 51EBde led by 2LT GARY DEUDA find difficulty to start the cleaning operation due to situational circumtances. The Commander, NADESCOM this moment joined and actively participated the clean-up operation, in coordination with the barangay officials the teamed-up personnel from NDSC/51E were divided and group into three teams and dispatched into three parts of the river. The noble undertaking of NDSC/51E exerted more time and effort than before to clear the river from usual waste and debris that resulted the clogging and eventual cause of flooding in metropolis area. As of this writing, the brigade still taking part on this noble undertaking, with the mission: “To save the Tullahan River”.
