MAJ GEN OCHOA ASSUMES AS NEW 5ID COMMANDER
Camp Melchor F dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela - Maj Gen Nestor Z Ochoa AFP assumed the Command of the 5th Infantry
(Star) Division, Philippine Army as the new Commander in a simple and fitting ceremony during the change of
Command last January 19, 2009 at this camp.
The change of Command was presided by Maj Gen Jerry V Jalandoni AFP, Vice Commander of the Philippine Army who
welcomed the newly installed Commander of 5ID with great hope and expectation to led the unit into the fulfillment
of its mandates in consonance with the Internal Security Operations (ISO) thrusts and timeline.
Maj Gen Ochoa is his assumption speech, said that the Division will continue to perform its mission in a robust
fashion, to reduce the CPP/NPA into a consequential level by 2010 and to provide the people of Regions I, II
and Cordillera administrative Region (CAR), a safe and secure environment - an environment in which freedom is assured.
The new 5ID Commander, however emphasized that the ultimate defeat of the enemy of the state will not come from
bullets alone but rather to the amount of relationship and cooperation that soldiers get from the other stakeholders
and the people in general.
He called upon each member of the Star Division Team to join him achieve their mission as he plays the role of
a team leader.
Maj Gen Ochoa extended his gratitude to Col Renato A David, Officer-In-Charge of the 5th Infantry Division for
taking care this said unit while waiting for the formerís assumption of Command.
The newly installed Commander, 5ID is his third stint with the 5th Infantry Division. The first was in 1982 as
the Assistant Operation Officer in the office of G3 for three (3) years. He came back in 1993 to lead 48th Infantry
Battalion deployed in Pinukpok, Kalinga and subsequently became the Commanding Officer of 5th Division Training Unit until 1996.
