Army Troops Recover High Powered Firearms in a Series of Encounter
Camp Melchor F dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela - Army Troops belonging to 50th Infantry Battalion
led by 2Lt Milton Mitchel B Sitoy and 2Lt Eduard Ian P Ricablanca while on combat operations encountered
more or less seven (7) fully armed communists terrorists at Sitio Tubtuba, Brgy Lamag, Quirino, Ilocos Sur
at 6:30 in the morning of June 6, 2009.
In a report sent to Maj Gen Nestor Z Ochoa, Commander of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division, by Col Essel
C Soriano, Commanding Officer of 503rd Infantry Brigade disclosed that a platoon led by 2Lt Sitoy and 2Lt
Ricablanca encountered the communist terrorist group at Sitio Tubtuba, Brgy Lamag, Quirino, Ilocos Sur. The
firefight lasted for about thirty five (35) minutes afterwhich the enemy withdrew towards southeast direction
carrying with them their casualties as indicated by bloodstains in their route of withdrawal.
The report said that the troops scoured the encounter site that resulted to the recovery of an M16
rifle with M203 Grenade Launcher attached bearing serial number 168581; one (1) Nokia Cellphone (N6070);
Laminated Sacks (3 pcs 10x12, 10 pcs 3x4); One (1) Axe and One (1) Web Belt with Bolo. There were no casualty
on the government side while undetermined number of casualties on the enemy side.
The report further said that troops from Charlie Company of 50IB led by 1LT DAMONSONG encountered more or
less 20 communist terrorist while on security operations at Sitio Pananuman, Tubtubo, Abra at 1:00 o’clock
in the afternoon on same date. The firefight lasted for about 20 minutes. Recovered by the operating troops
at the encounter site. Hot pursuits against the withdrawing enemy group is still going on.
