Government Forces Discovered Abandoned NPA Camp and War Materials in San Mariano, Isabela
Camp Melchor F dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela - Joint elements of 45th Infantry Battalion led
by 2LT SOLIS AND 2LT DELA CRUZ, Military Intelligence Group, 52nd Military Intelligence Company
and PNP discovered an abandoned communist terrorist camp while on combat operation at Sitio San
Isidro, Barangay Disulap, San Mariano, Isabela at 9:16 in the morning of June 9, 2009.
In a report sent to Maj Gen Nestor Z Ochoa, Commander of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division,
by LTC GENEROSO PONIO, Commanding Officer of 45TH Infantry Battalion, said that the discovery
of communist terrorist camp by the operating troops, they recovered the following items: six
(5) improvised explosive device anti-tank, seven (7) improvise anti-personnel mine, fourteen
(14) pcs cartridges for shotgun, one (1) improvised unserviceable hand grenade, three (3) meters
detonating cord, one (1) can epoxy hand, two (2) plastic roof cement, three (3) blasting cap,
two (2) kilograms black powder/main charge of explosive, fifty four (54) pcs improvised anti-personnel mines inert.
The report also said that this is the second NPA camp seized by the operating troops in San Mariano,
Isabela which is considered as storage of explosives and ammunition of the communist terrorists.
MAJ GEN OCHOA further disclosed that the series of discovery of NPA encampment with explosives
and ammunition in Ilocos and Isabela provinces by the Army troops, pre-empted the terroristic
plans of the communist terrorists to inflict terror against the life and property of the peace-loving
people who are enjoying freedom and liberty.
