NPA REGULAR SURRENDERS TWO (2) HIGH-POWERED FIREARMS

Camp Melchor F dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela - A New People’s Army regular member voluntarily
surrendered with his two (2) M16 rifles to the joint elements of 77th Infantry Battalion,
5th Military Intelligence Battalion and 501st Infantry Brigade led by Col Romeo Fajardo at
Brgy Bagumbayan Dupax del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya on 18 June, this year.
In a report sent to Maj Gen Nestor Z Ochoa, Commander of the Army’s 5th Infantry Division, the
rebel is identified as AKA Arnie, an active member of the Cagayan Valley Regional Committee of
the CPP/NPA/NDF. (However, pending other critical revelations of subject RR, request that his
name be withheld upon publication to national and local news.)
Maj Gen Ochoa, acting on the report, presented the rebel returnee to the media on 19 June 2009
at 9 o’clock in the morning in this camp. In a simple ceremony, the media practitioners
personally witnessed the awarding of the firearms remuneration and financial assistance to
the rebel as part of the Social Integration Program of the government.
As he revealed, Ka Arnie decided to surrender to the government forces because he could no
longer bear the hardship in joining the futile underground movement. He observed that his group
could no longer solicit assistance from the populace so he decided to lay down his arms and more
importantly his ideology. He then gave his utmost gratitude to the government for providing
him financial reward – more than enough as his foundation to restart his life with his family anew.
In his short message during the ceremony, Maj Gen Ochoa urged the other members of the Communist
Terrorist Movement to follow Ka Arnie’s footsteps and finally embrace the offer of the
government - peaceful reconciliation towards peace and development.
