Top Ranking NPA Leader Arrested in Cagayan
Camp Melchor F dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela - A top ranking NPA
leader was arrested by joint elements of 502nd Infantry Brigade, 17th
Infantry Battalion, Criminal Investigative and Detection Group-2 and
Cagayan Provincial Police Office in the province of Cagayan at about
8:30 in the evening of March 22, this year.
The report of the Army's 5th Infantry Division under the Command of the
newly promoted Commander MGEN ROMMEL A GOMEZ AFP, identified the
apprehended Communist Terrorist Leader as GELINA VILLANUEVA, AKA NEL/JELLY,
2nd Deputy Secretary of Cagayan Valley Regional Party Committee (CVRC)
and concurrent Secretary of Regional White Area Committee of CVRC. She
was arrested by virtue of warrant of arrest, Criminal case 9915 issued
by Cagayan Regional Trial Court for Murder at Barangay Kauginganan,
Pamplona, Cagayan. AKA NEL is included in the list of PNP Most Wanted
Person with a reward of P 1.2 Million.
MGEN ROMMEL A GOMEZ stated that the arrest of Communist Terrorist Leader
GELINA VILLANUEVA is a big blow to the Communist Terrorist Movement in
Cagayan Valley and it will create a leadership crisis affecting the
morale of the Communist Terrorists' will to fight.
Further, the Communist Terrorist Movement clandestinely operating in
Cagayan Valley under the leadership of AKA NEL was responsible in giving
Permit to Campaign (PTC) and Permit to Win (PTW) to some political
candidates who were campaigning in the insurgency - affected Barangays.
