7ID Rallies Behind National Greening Program (NGP)

In upbeat response to the National Greening Program (NGP) of the government, the 7th Infantry (Kaugnay) Division, Philippine Army heightened its Global Environmental Protection Campaign by establishing more nursery seedlings production and conducts frequent tree planting activities to prop up this initiative. The program aspires to plant 1.2 million trees in different military camps within the 7ID area of responsibility and in collaboration with other stakeholders to achieve the target goal for period of six (6) years from 2011 to 2016.
Per Letter Directive from OJ7, AFP dated 20 April 2011 with subject: Establishment of Nursery and Seedling Production in connection with Executive Order Number 26 (or the NGP), the Kaugnay Division, with its Brigade, Battalion and Opcon units shall implement and conduct NGP related activities within their respective area of responsibility in coordination with other stakeholders primarily with DENR, DA & DAR thru the following courses of action:
a. Establishment of nursery for seedlings production and conduct tree planting/growing activities with a total 200,000 seedlings target per year.
b. Encourage other stakeholders within AO to propagate seedlings and conduct tree planting within their sector thru adopt-a-hectare (or small portion) program.
c. Conduct continuous Troop Information and Education (TI and E) on tree growing techniques.
d. Establishment of a catch basin inside or near camp which can be a source of water supply and a tool for anti-flash flood during calamities.
e. Ensure that all propagated and planted trees must be accounted properly for recording and reporting purposes.
f. Conduct advocacy program regarding the importance of planting trees in relation with the climate change and environmental protection thru tri-media and internet.
EO Nr 26, known as the National Greening Program (NGP) dated 24 February 2011 is a government priority program to address food security, poverty alleviation, environment stability, biodiversity conversation, climate change mitigation and harmonize all greening efforts of the government, civil society and private sector under this greening program. The NGP envisioned of planting 1.5 billion trees for period of six (6) years from 2011 to 2016 covering 1.5 million hectares.
