HISTORY

 

CHRONOLOGICAL EVENTS

 

1.  The 9th Inf Bde (S) PA was activated on 15 August 02 pursuant to General Orders nr 456 HPA dated 02 September 02. On same order, 901st and 902nd Infantry Brigades were activated, with the personnel and equipment of the unfilled 202nd and 203rd Infantry Brigades, 2ID, respectively serves as its nucleus. Moreover, 2nd IB, 22nd IB and 42nd IB were reassigned from 2ID to the 9th Bde (Sep) to constitute as the initial organic Battalions of the Bde (Sep) while 31st IB and two (2) Batteries of 4FAB and two (2) Companies of LABde were also placed under OPCON of the Bde (Sep).

 

2.  For the period 15 August to 31 December 2002, the following units were likewise activated: the 1st and 2nd Camarines Norte CAA Co, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Camarines Sur CAA Co and the 2nd Masbate CAA Co.

 

3. The Brigade (Separate) has deployed elements of the 42nd Infantry Battalion, under OPCON of the 902nd Infantry Brigade, to the Island-province of Catanduanes, relieving elements of the 901st Infantry Brigade stationed in the area.

 

 4. On 12 Feb 02, the 203rd Infantry Brigade Commander then COLONEL JACINTO CORDERO INF (MNSA) PA was directed by MAJ GEN ERNESTO CAROLINA, SOLCOM Commander to move the Bde Hqs and its combat support units (43LAC/”B” Btry/Signal Pltn/Med/Dent Tm) from Barangay Tulay na Lupa, Labo, Camarines Norte and occupied at Barangay Tara, Sipocot, Camarines Sur. Subsequently, 31st Infantry (Charge) Battalion under LTC EMILIANO GUPANA II, the Commanding Officer, occupied the vacated Brigade Headquarters.

 

5.  On 21 May 02, MGEN ERNESTO G CAROLINA, then COMSOLCOM, awarded 31st IB as the Best Battalion for TRIAD Operations. Later, the same 31IB was awarded by CG, 2ID last 2002 as the Best Battalion for Administration. It was worth mentioning that the Battalion is constantly among the Best Battalion of the entire Philippine Army. As further proof, two (2) officers from this unit were adjudged as 2ID best officer for calendar year 2002 and 2003 and one (1) enlisted man was chosen as the Best EM of the year 2002 for the entire Philippine Army which was awarded on 106th PA anniversary Celebration last 22 March 2003 at HPA, FBMC. The same enlisted person was awarded as the Best EM of the year 2003 for the entire Armed Forces of the Philippines and was formally given during the AFP Day on 19 December 2003 at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

 

 6.  On 02 Sep 02, BGEN SANTIAGO S PREJIDO AFP, assumed Command over the 9th Inf Bde (Separate) pursuant to GO Nr 488 dated 10 Sep 02. He performed his inherent and implied tasks at Camp Canuto, Sagurong, Pili, Camarines Sur, which served as the Brigade (Separate) Headquarters.

 

7. On 20 Oct 02, the 902nd Brigade (formerly 203rd Brigade) transferred its Headquarters from Brgy Tara to Brgy Bolo Sur, Sipocot, Camarines Sur.

 

8.  Over at the Headquarters, 9th Brigade Separate, the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training, G8 was activated effective as of 01 November 2002 pursuant to General Orders Nr 11, H9IBde(S), PA dated 15 Nov 02

 

9. Moreover, the following units of 9IB(S) were activated pursuant to GO Nr 03, H9IBde(S), PA dated 12 Jan 03 effective on dates indicated:

9th Signal Battalion was activated effective as of 01 Sep 02

9th Civil Affairs Unit was activated effective 01 Nov 02

9th Brigade Training Unit was activated effective 01 Nov 02

Recon Company was activated effective 01 Nov 02

82nd Military Intelligence Company was activated effective 11 Nov 02

Service Support Battalion was activated effective 01 Jan 03

HQs & HQs  Service Company was activated effective 01 Jan 03.

Engineer Combat Company was activated effective 01 Jan 03

 

10.  On 15 Jun 03, 902nd Infantry (Fight & Serve) Brigade returned to Brgy Tulay na Lupa, Labo, Camarines Norte, together with the attached units where it is now presently based. COL CORDERO after his stint as Brigade Commander for almost three (3) years was promoted to Brigadier General, crediting himself as the last Commander of 203rd Infantry Brigade under 2ID and the 1st Commander of 902nd Brigade under the Brigade Separate. He relinquished his command to COL RUBEN O RAFAEL INF (GSC) PA.

 

11.  In the implementation of the 902nd Infantry Brigade, 9th Infantry Division (P), PA Campaign Plan “Manu-Mano” and its Campaign Plan “Delta Force”, 31IB activated its 4th rifle company (Delta Provisional) to address the insurgency problem in the 1st District of Camarines Sur. The area was vacated by 42nd IB when the later unit has assumed ISO responsibility over Catanduanes, in consonance with the realignment directive from the higher headquarters, to properly address the priority front in the province.

 

12. On 09 Jun 03, the 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion under then LTC VIRGILIO E CAPATI INF (GSC) PA was placed under OPCON to 9IB(S) pursuant to HSOLCOM Operational Directive 03-2003 dated 01 June 2003.

 

13.  On 15 Jun 03, the Task Force “Orgullo” was activated pursuant to GO Nr 69, H9IBde(S), PA dated 08 June 2003 with COL JOEL JOSEPH A CABIDES (INF) JCSC MNSA PA as the Task Force Commander.

 

14.  On 13 Mar 03, the 42IB vacated its former location at Brgy Banga Caves, Ragay, Camarines Sur and transferred its Bn Command Post at Mabalodbalod, Tigaon, Camarines Sur.

 

15.  On 15 Jun 03, the 902nd Bde vacated its former location at Brgy Bolo Sur, Sipocot, Camarines Sur and returned to its former Brigade Headquarters at Brgy Tulay na Lupa, Labo, Camarines Norte.

 

16. Subsequently, on same day (15 Jun 03), the 31IB transferred its Battalion Headquarters at Brgy Bolo, Sipocot, Camarines Sur.

 

17. On 19 Jul 03, MGEN JOHN D BOLHAYON AFP (then at the rank of BGEN), assumed Command of the 9th Brigade Separate from BGEN SANTIAGO S PREJIDO AFP, pursuant to GO Nr 395 HPA dated 17 Jul 03.

 

18.  On 01 Aug 03, the 65th Infantry Battalion was again filled-up as one of the organic Infantry Battalions of the 9th Infantry Brigade (Separate). Its personnel manning and equipage was conducted at sitio Kabukludan, now Camp Elias Angeles, Pili, Camarines Sur. It was activated last 16 April 1987 pursuant to GO Nr 232 HPA dated 09 Jun 19987. The Bn was unfilled during the 90s due to some organizational developments at Headquarters, Philippine Army. 

 

 19. On 12 Jan 04 the 9th Infantry Division (Provisional) was activated pursuant to GO Nr 56, HPA dated 26 Jan 04. It was then under the Command of MAJ GENERAL JOHN D BOLHAYON AFP who can be credited as the 1st Commanding General of the Division (Provisional). It was during his time that initial measures were made to establish the Division Headquarters at Camp Elias Angeles at Brgy San Jose, Pili, Camarines Sur. It was unfortunate, however, that the initial developments and camp structures, which were newly constructed, were heavily damaged and flattened by three (3) successive strong typhoons that struck the Bicol Region, namely: YOYONG, WINNIE, and KIKAY on November 2004 .

 

20. On 15 Jan 04, the 92nd Recon Company was activated pursuant to GO Nr 65, H9ID (Provisional) dated 03 Apr 04, and subsequently on  01 Apr 04 the unit was placed under Operational Control of OG3, 9ID (P).

 

21. On 16 Jan 04, the 31st Infantry Battalion was transferred/reassigned to 9th Infantry Division (P) from 2nd Infantry Division pursuant to GO Nr 49, HPA dated 21 Jan 04.  

 

22.  On 07 Jun 04, the old Unit Color of 9th Brigade Separate (Orgullo) was retired and subsequently was changed with the Unit Color of 9ID (Provisional) with the Lancer as its Logo, pursuant to GO Nr 90, H9ID, PA dated 05 Jun 04,  

 

23. On 01 Oct 04, the 9th Infantry Division (P), was upgraded to regular Infantry Division, PA pursuant to GO Nr 517, HPA dated 06 Oct 04,

 

24. On 25 Oct 04, the province of Masbate was absorbed by 8th Infantry Division as part of the strategic realignment of the AOR initiated by Higher Headquarters.

 

25. On 10 Nov 04, 2IB turned over the Internal Security Operations Responsibility of Masbate to 8ID under the Central Command (CEMCOM) and focused its TRIAD operations in mainland Sorsogon province. Said 2IB has one (1) Rifle Company at Masbate island province since 11 Aug 1999. 

 

26.  On 06 Dec 04, MGEN RICARDO G NOBLEZA AFP (then at the rank of BGEN) assumed Command of the 9th Infantry Division from MGEN JOHN D BOLHAYON AFP pursuant to GO Nr 638 HPA dated 06 Dec 04.  Since the unit was no longer a Division (Provisional), MGEN NOBLEZA changed the unit logo from Lancer to SPEAR to symbolize the formal operational existence of the 9th Infantry Division, a new regular Infantry Division organic to the Philippine Army. Thus, MGEN RICARDO G NOBLEZA AFP is credited as the 1st Commanding General of the upgraded REGULAR infantry Division - 9ID, PA.

 

27. On 15 Dec 04 the 22nd Infantry Battalion was designated as Cadre Battalion of 9th Infantry Division (P) pursuant to GO Nr 655, HPA dated 11 Dec 03.

 

28.     On 12 Jan 05, 3rd Scout Ranger Battalion was place OPCON to 901Bde to complement the conduct of ISO in the AOR.

 

29. On 01 Feb 05, the Management and Fiscal Office, 9ID, Philippine Army (MFO) was activated pursuant to GO Nr 40, HPA dated 24 Jan 05.

 

30. On 15 Feb 05, the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operation, G7 and Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training, G8 were deactivated and its functional areas were absorbed by the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operation, G3 pursuant to Go Nr 40, HPA dated 24 Jan 05.

 

31. On 15 Feb 05, the 5th Field Artillery Battalion, 9th Infantry Division was activated pursuant to GO Nr 28, H9ID dated 07 Feb 05.

32. On 15 Mar 05, the ISO responsibility over Catanduanes province was transferred from 902Bde to 901Bde.

 

33. On 15 Mar 05, the 91st RC was place OPCON to 901Bde due to the expanded 901Bde AOR that includes the island province of Catanduanes as per reference in FRAGO (01) to IMPLAN 01-05 (ISR), 9ID, PA dated 10 Feb 05

 

34. On 01 Apr 05, the Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for CEIS, G6, 9ID, PA was activated pursuant to GO Nr 123, H9ID dated 29 Mar 05. In the same orders, the Office of the Division Signal Officer, 9th Infantry Division, Philippine Army was deactivated.

 

35. On 14 Dec 05, the 92nd RC was placed OPCON to 902Bde while 42IB is under going Battalion retraining.

 

36.  On 25 Nov 2005, the Task Force “LIWANAG” was activated pursuant to GO Nr 21 H9ID, PA dated 13 January 2006.
