The unit was activated in 1973 as the 5th Miitary Support Point (MSP), AFP whose primary mission is to provide logistical requirement of AFP units operating in Central Mindanao at the outbreak of the MNLF uprising and seccessionist movement.
Later in 1977, it was renamed as the 4th Military Support Point, Logistics Command (LOGCOM), AFP, pursuant to GO nr 17, GHQ, AFP dated 22 March 1977. However, two years later the regionalization concept of support was implemented by LOGCOM, hence again it was renamed as 12th Military Support Point, Logistics Command, AFP on 01 April 1979.
In 1992, pursuant to GO nr 93, GHQ. AFP dated 30 January 1992, the unit was devolved to the Philippine Army to include its Army personnel, civilian employees, facilities, equipment and stocks effective 01 February 1992. Subsequently, the unit was renamed into 12th Service Support Unit under Service Support Brigade, Philippine Army which is now Army Support Command.
The unit is presently catering Philippine Army Units in Central Mindanao within Regions XII ARMM and some parts of Region XI.
Headquarters 12FSSU, ASCOM, PA is situated on the northern sector of Camp BGen Gonzalo H Siongco, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao. Its compound has a total land area of about Twenty Four (24) hectares. Camp Siongco also the Headqiarters of the 6th Infantry (KAMPILAN) Division, Phipippine Army.
The unit compound is enclosed with a 3-meter high cyclone fence. It has a main gate that serves as the entrance and exit point for personnel and vehicles. It has one (1) L-typed building utilized as Administrative Building. Inside the admin building are the following offices: UPO Office, Operation Section, Intel Section, Logistics Section, Admin Section, CO's Office, Conference Room, Supply Room/Armory and Multi Purpose Hall/Canteen. Within a 200 meter radius of the admin building are the three (3) EP barracks, Maintenance Bays, Motor Pool Shed, Mortuary, GS (twin type) Warehouse, BOQ, CO Quarters and Ammo Magazines 1 and 2.
It's facilities include seven (7) above-ground Ammo Magazines and four (4) underground (Igloo type) Magazines to store different kinds of ammunitions. Except for Magazines are inside the Ammo complex located at the western portion of the compound.
