106 (BNT) CDC
The typhoon
"IGME" brought gust of strong winds and heavy rains
to Baguio City continue for 3-4 days. LTC ELPIDIO A ASPURIA (QMS)
PA, CO of 106 (BNT) CDC with the help of Local Radio Program anchored
by Cpt Christopher A Bartolo (Res) PA called on and alerted all
Organic Personel, ROTC Cadet Officers and available Reservist
to immediately report at 106 (BNT) CDC for deployment on any eventually
that t heir services will be needed.
Immediate
briefing conducted to all available personnel. As part of their
Contingency Plans, the volunteer were grouped into five (5) teams
ready for dispatched into different areas where their services
may be needed. Coordination were made with the concerned line
agencies, specifically, the Regional Office of the Civil Defense
and the City Disaster Coordinating Office stationed at the City
Hall.
At the
height of the typhoon the two (2) teams composed of Organic Personnel
and other ROTC Cadets headed by LTC ASPURIA remain on stand by
alert while the team of Reservists continuously monitoring the
status of major roads leading to Baguio City: Kennon Road, Halsema
Highway, Marcos Highway, Naguillan Rd and Baguio-Viscaya Rd. These
roads are known to be prone to landslide and usually render the
roads impassable during typhoons.
After
three (3) days of continuous rains, the team of Reservists conducted
clearing operations at affected areas and roads . Msg Valentine
Carantes (Res) PA, a realty development contrator, volunteered
the use of his privately own buldoozers to remove debris and aftemaths
of the typhoon to Kennon Road.

CDC with the assistance of the ROTC Cadets, Reservists and Volunteers
actively involves in disaster-related operations in the area however,
its lack of equipment limits the capability of the unit in responding
to emergencies.
