701st (Cebu) Ready Reserve Battalion

UNIT HISTORY OF 701ST (CEBU)

COMMUNITY DEFENSE CENTER

The 701ST Community Defense Center, 7th Regional Community Defense Group, Army  Reserve  Command  was  activated in 1972.  The unit was co-located with Headquarters 7th Regional Community Defense Group stationed at Camp Lapulapu, Cebu City. It was in this year when the Home Defense Affairs Unit (HDAU) was transformed into three (3) Home Defense Battalions and placed under the 3rd Infantry Brigade (Separate).  These Battalions were deployed in Eastern, Western, and Central Visayas.

In 1980-  The  control   and  supervision of the unit was transferred from 3rd Infantry Division to the Army Reserve Command and was renamed 7th HOME DEFENSE UNIT (7HDU).  The area of responsibility of the unit was then reduced and confined to Region VII.  During this period, the unit pursued its commitment by giving more emphasis on the Seven (7) Pillars of the Civil Military Operation Programs. However, after EDSA Revolution, the Army Reserve Command was deactivated.  The 7th Home Defense Unit was returned to the Control of the 3rd Infantry Division. Then Renamed 7th Regional Community Defense Unit. But it did not last long, because in 1992, the Reserve Command, Philippine Army was activated again and all existing Regional Community Defense Units were absorbed including the 7th Regional Community Defense Unit which was then renamed 7th Regional Community Defense Group and the Provincial Headquarters   was  renamed Cebu Community Defense Center in 01 August 1986 pursuant to Section I, General Orders Number  229, Headquarters Philippine Army dated 15 August 1986.
