Mrs Lidelia Mesina, a 52-year old chemist working in the Middle East is seen personally manning the distribution of water to her neighbors in the devastated Barangay of Hinaplanon in Iligan City. Lidelia tested the purified water then hurriedly called her neighbors and personally helped managed the distribution of water. Lidelia was teary eyed as she held the water hose while narrating the ordeal they have to experience that fateful night. She was in another Barangay when awakened by a sudden rush of hip-level floodwater. She called her parents and relatives by her mobile phone for help but not any of their phones can be reached. Early that morning, a very shocking news got to her, both her parents, two (2) nieces and a nephew were found dead trapped inside their ancestral house, drowned under the 20-foot flashflood that night. She now volunteered that same house to be the water station for the AFP’s water purifying team. Lidelia lost 15 relatives and one is still missing. As the people are lining up for water, stories were told. They related how many of them climbed trees and were clinging for dear life while others were jammed packed on the roofs of two-storey houses. Lidelia could not hide her tears as she thanked the soldiers in bringing the water purification equipment to them. “We don’t have water to drink, there’s no electricity, we lost everything but having you here eases our sufferings a lot. We don’t know how to thank you ” she said in the vernacular.

A nameless boy in the midst. Our camera caught this lone child carrying container lining up to get some water. We would have liked to ask him why he was the one lining-up but after hearing all the horror and unnerving stories, no one of us was brave enough to ask what he is to tell lest we stumble on something we cannot chew.
