Pagkusog sa Cafgu (OPC) aims to
empower the CAA to become more
relevant by taking a more active
role in the affairs of the

their watch. The brainchild of

implementation last July and is

region last November. Among
those recovered by Army troops
were high-powered firearms and
various medical paraphernalia,
an attestation that the New
People's Army have trained
"health workers" that caters to
the needs of their wounded
fighters. #

and IEDs. These explosive
devices were recovered in Brgy
Datagan, Calinog, Iloilo while
troops pursued fleeing New
People's Army rebels after an
encounter in nearby Brgy
Malitbog. The military believes
that these are intended to be
used against non-military
targets that will include
non-combatant civilians as
casualties. Landmines and other
improvised explosive devices are
banned by the Geneva Convention
Protocol II and the GRP-NDF's
CARHRIHL. Their continued use by
the NPA is a blatant violation
of the International
Humanitarian Law.

Recovered
Firearms and ammunition. Among
the recoveries of our soldiers
from the the 61st Infantry
(Hunter) Battalion during an
encounter with members of the
New People's Army in Pontevedra,
Capiz were an M-1 Garand Rifle
with 15 magazine clips and a
home-made magazine-fed shotgun.
The encounter resulted in one
NPA dead and another suspected
female rebel captured.

of 1,355 Body Armor was acquired
by the Army, subject for
issuance to the different Army
units nationwide, through
Foreign Military Sales under a
grant from the United States
government. The Army is also
expecting to receive a total of
50,500 life-saving Kevlar
Helmets from the US. The first
tranche of 25,140 helmets is now
ready for distribution to Army
field units while the remaining
25,360 helmets are expected to
be delivered this year. Force
protection is about better ways
to protect our troops. Increased
safety and reduced risks lead to
enhanced confidence and morale
for fighting soldiers and
improvements in the offensive
capability and performance.
These acquisitions boost the
tactical edge of the Philippine
Army troops translating to a
greater resolve to accomplish
security missions.

February 2010 conducted by the

Children aged 10 to 14 from the Army Football Club competed at said event besting other teams. The Army Football Club was put up primarily to cater to the needs of all football enthusiasts in the Army community, especially the youth aged 6-18 years old. The club was later on opened to children of non-military personnel. Competing armies gear up for the Machine Gun competition in the recently concluded Australian Army Skills-at-Arms Meeting (AASAM) held at the Combined Arms Training Center, Puckapunyal Military Area, Victoria, Australia from May 10 to 20. The Philippine Army Shooting Team was able to finish third among the competing countries bagging a total of eight gold medals, 11 silver medals and a bronze medal. The Canada Plate Perpetual Trophy was likewise awarded to the team for topping the Rifle Falling Plates Match. The team also finished the obstacle course with the fastest time, finishing it in 20.53 seconds, which is the best record in AASAM so far. "For us, the competition is an opportunity to showcase the very high marksmanship skill level we have in the PA and that we are at par with the rest of the other Armies of the world," said Maj Ricky P Bunayog, the team captain. #

Bracing for typhoon "Ramil" - The newly-activated Multi-Role Force Battalion, also known as the Army Continent for Emergency (ACE), displays its capabilities including several Army trucks, rubber boats, motorized boats, and other life-saving devices during its activation on October 17 at the Philippine Army Headquarters. The activation and mobilization of the Multi-Role Force Battalion is very timely since the country braces for another typhoon which is expected to hit the country this week.

The Philippine Army's K9 unit demonstrates how to detect Improvised Explosive Devices, locate missing persons, and retrieve cadavers of victims of calamities. The K9 Battalion is enhanced primarily to support the Army's Disaster Rescue and Relief Operations and its Anti-Terror campaign. Recently, it was responsible for the retrieval of five bodies following the landslide in Tadian, Mountain Province. Responsibility Symposium dubbed
"Makiisa sa Kaunlaran,
Kapayapaan at Kabutihan ng Bayan"
held today, September 12, 2009,
at Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila.
The 18 ex-rebels are awarded
with financial assistance from
the government. Also present in
the activity are Executive
Secretary to the President of
the Philippines Eduardo Ermita;
Presidential Adviser on Peace
Process, Sec. Avelino Razon; and
Armed Forces of the Philippines
Chief-of-Staff, Gen. Victor
Ibrado among others.

underlined that military means
may not be the solution to the
problem of insurgency in the

ON-THE-SPOT PROMOTION
- Army chief Lt Gen Delfin N Bangit facilitates the donning of rank to soldiers who were promoted on-the-spot during his recent visit at Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) at Camp O'Donnell, Capas, Tarlac in recognition for their outstanding service to the Philippine Army and the country as well. Spot promotions are being given by the Army chief in his visits to different Army units to recognize exceptional soldiers not only in the field of combat, but also on administrative, logistics, intelligence, and civil-military operations.
Army Chief Lt. Gen. Delfin N. Bangit leads the donning of rank of now Lt. Gen. Roland Detabali last Monday, August 3, at the Headquarters Philippine Army Grandstand in Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila. Lt. Gen. Detabali received another star for his remarkable feat as the commander of Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) where New People's Army strength was greatly reduced, especially in Marinduque, Cavite, Laguna, and Romblon.

COMBAT
ENLISTMENT - Army chief Lt Gen Delfin N Bangit facilitates the oath taking of
six CAAs who were enlisted to the regular force as Privates in his recent visit
at the V. Luna General Hospital and the Fort Bonifacio General Hospital over the
weekend. The enlistment of the six CAAs is an unprecedented effort of the Army
chief in recognizing the bravery and contributions of the Cafgu Active Auxiliary
as partners in the continued pursuit for peace.
