Army shooting team bags 2nd overall in AASAM 2018

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army shooting team, “Manunudla” ranked 2nd overall during the recently concluded Australian Army Skills at Arms Meeting (AASAM) 2018 held at the Combined Arms Training Center, Puckapunyal, Victoria, Australia from April 26 to May 11, 2018.

The 16-man Philippine Army contingent led by Colonel Radito P. Sese garnered 8 golds, 3 silvers, 3 bronzes and 3 perpetual trophies in 50 matches against 17 competing countries namely - Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand, Australia, Singapore, Brunei, Canada, UAE, UK, Cambodia, Fiji, Tonga, USA, and East-Timor.

The overall rank is based on the total number of medals per match earned by each participating team. The Philippines came second to Indonesia which garnered 19 gold, 14 silvers and 9 bronzes. Malaysia came third with 5 golds, 5 silvers, and 3 bronzes.

The AASAM is an annual shooting competition hosted by the Australian Army which aims to validate modern standards, equipment, and training systems in combat shooting.

The Philippine Army constantly participates in various international competitions to gain exposure and acquire new techniques to improve its skills and capabilities in pursuit of its vision of becoming a world class Army by 2028.#
