7ID Celebrates the Philippine Army @ 120

Children in awe of Army tanks and cannons, adults trying on Army helmets or looking through binoculars, and music lovers tapping to the beat of an Army band are just some of the scenes that stood out on Sunday (March 19) at the SM City – Cabanatuan, as the 7th Infantry(Kaugnay)

Division (7ID), the Special Operations Command (SOCOM) and the Army Artillery Regiment (AAR) put up of a photo and static display to showcase the capability of the Philippine Army in celebration of its 120th Anniversary. The Philippine Army’s 120th Founding Anniversary is commemorated by all Army units this whole of March. For the Kaugnay Division, a Photo and Static Display organized at the 4th floor of SM City-Cabanatuan was the first salvo of the activities it has lined up in celebration of this historical event.

The 7th CMO GWAPO Battalion Peace Jammers Band, the champion in the Battle of the Bands Season 7 last December 10, 2016, also gave a performance the whole day while the crowd listened, took pictures of the display and watched the videos about the Philippine Army.

Two talented individuals were featured during the static display, one aspiring soldier who wants to apply at 7ID showcased his talent mimicking a beat box, while a seven-year old kid from Ilocos Norte played the drums along with the Peace Jammers, to the amazement of spectators.

Next in the line of activities at 7ID was a Seminar on Photo-Journalism, News Writing and Radio/TV Broadcasting which took place on 24 March at the Pahingahan Multi-Function Hall in Fort Magsaysay. Made possible through the Division Public Affairs Office (DPAO) in coordination with the Kaugnay Media Defense Corps, Inc. (KMDCI), the Journalism seminar was well-attended with participants both from the military and the local government units in Nueva Ecija.

With the social media being a very powerful and favorite platform of the general public, the Kaugnay Division thought it timely to promote responsible journalism as part of its bid towards good governance.

On the 25th of March, the Kaugnay Fun Bike dubbed P.A. Padyak 2017 was conducted. Covering a total of 37 kilometers, cyclists formed at the 7ID Headquarters as their starting point, went around Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija, and back at the 7ID Headquarters to reach the finish line.

The Kaugnay Fun Shoot 2017 was the last activity conducted. Running from 31 March to 01 April, the Fun Shoot was open to both the Army, the Philippine National Police, other lawmen and civilians who may compete under the following categories: Pistol (Classic, Standard, Production, Open); Rifle (Standard and Open); and Team, Match.

Winners of the Fun Shoot were awarded during the Kaugnay Socials held on 01 April at the 7ID Swimming Pool (fondly called Batis by the locals); a fitting conclusion and show of appreciation to the Kaugnay family who rallied to make all of the events a success and well worth the effort.

With all that was prepared, perhaps none could be more rewarding than the announcement that Major General Angelito M De Leon, Commander, 7ID, made that night.  That the Kaugnay Division has been rated “Best” in connection with the implementation of the Performance-Based Bonus (PBB) 2016, together with the 53rd Infantry Brigade and the 10th Infantry Division, Philippine Army.

In its 120 years of serving the nation, the Philippine Army has gone through several remarkable transformations, and has started to cultivate a culture of good governance through the Army Transformation Roadmap (ATR) that aims to propel it into an institute that the Filipino people could be genuinely proud of.  The Kaugnay Division is going through this process of transformation, and genuinely works to be a pride of the Philippine Army and the Filipino people.
