NPA leader nabbed in Cebu; 3 others surrender in Davao del Norte,
Mt Province
A 53-year-old New People's Army leader was apprehended by the
Intelligence operatives of the 8th Infantry Division with the Police and
members of the Central Command in Danao City, Cebu on July 25.
Reports reaching the Philippine Army chief Lt Gen Victor S Ibrado
identified the suspect as Alberto Acerden, who is allegedly the Deputy
Secretary of Front Committee 3, Central Visayas Regional Party Committee
and training staff member of the NPA Special Partisan Unit. Acerden has
a standing warrant of arrest for Robbery with Homicide issued by the
Regional Trial Court in Danao City, Cebu.
Meanwhile in Davao del Norte, two NPA leaders surrendered with a firearm
to the members of Charlie Company, 60th Infantry Battalion under 2Lt
Gamos and 2Lt Manigbas on July 28 at Sitio Kapatagan, Gupitan, Kapalong.
The surrenderors were identified as Arnel Minda alias Arnel, a team
leader of Baking Platoon and Political Officer of Guerilla Front (GF)
34, Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC) and Boyen Anipes
Sumingle alias Boyen, assistant team leader/ assistant political officer
of GF 34, SMRC. They also turned over an M653 rifle.
In Mountain Province, a certain alias Andoy (True Name Unknown)
voluntarily surrendered with firearms to the operatives of 77th Infantry
Battalion led by 1Lt Ulnagan and 45th IB led by 2Lt Solis on July 26 at
Botigue, Paracelis town.
Andoy turned over two M16 rifles with a short magazine and four live
ammunitions, which are now deposited at the 502nd Brigade headquarters
for proper documentation.
In Pampanga, a concerned citizen turned over war materiel to the Special
Operations Team of 3rd Infantry Battalion led by Sgt Bugayong on July 25
in Brgy Sta Monica, Lubao.
The materiel, believed to have been left by communist terrorists in the
area during the arrival of the SOT, consisted of a caliber .40MM (Home
made) Grenade Launcher with two rounds of ammunition and two ICOM hand
held radios. Turned-over items were brought to the 3rd IB headquarters
for proper documentation.
