3 NPA rebels killed in Ilocos Sur clash

CAMP Melchor F dela Cruz, Upi, Gamu, Isabela - Three New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed in a clash between the Army troops and undetermined number of NPA rebels in Brgy Baluarte, Salcedo, Ilocos Sur at 1:30 p.m. on July 26.

The operation involved members of Alpha Company, 50th Infantry Battalion led by 1Lt Roberto D Bulosan. The troops also recovered two M14 rifles, three M16 rifles, and subversive documents.

No casualty was reported from the government forces. The bodies of the NPA rebels were turned over to the local officials for proper disposition and identification.

Col Pompeo V Limbo, chief of 503rd Infantry Brigade has already dispatched more troops to press the momentum and pursue the fleeing communist terrorists.

Maj Gen Melchor J Dilodilo, 5th Infantry Division chief is thankful for the cooperation/support shown by the people in the area.

"The series of success and tempo that the 5th Infantry Division is gaining this year are credited mainly to the cooperation of the civilian populace to put an end to the coercion and harassment carried out by the New People's Army in the communities. Without the support of the civilian populace, the dedication and untiring efforts of our soldiers are hopeless," Maj Gen Dilodilo added.
