Army troops thwart NPA attack in Agusan del Sur
Elements of the 4th Infantry Battalion foiled an attempted attack by New
People's Army rebels in Kioya Patrol Base, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur at 9
p.m. on August 3.
More or less 30 NPA rebels from Front Committee 4A, North East Mindanao
Regional Command tried to harass the Kioya Patrol Base but the soldiers
and the members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit were able
to thwart the said attack.
Two soldiers, however, were wounded identified as MSgt Tormon and CAA de
Lima in their efforts to defend the patrol base.
It can be recalled that prior to this incident, Major Genral Ricardo
David, 4th ID chief alerted maneuver unit commanders to be vigilant for
plans of NPA terrorists to conduct simultaneous nationwide offensive
starting August 1 to 8 as directed by the NPA national leadership.
The successful defense of the Kioya Patrol Base manifests the high state
of morale and bravery of the CAFGUs. The Philippine Army is always ready
to thwart attempts by the communist terrorists to attack military
detachments. It has stepped up attacks against the New People's Army
rebels who continue to assault government troops, innocent civilians,
and business establishments.
