Philippine Army troops defend camps from MILF attacks
Philippine Army cadres and Cafgu elements of the 38th Cadre Battalion
were able to defend their camps from Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF)
attacks in two separate incidents on June 27 with no casualties on the
government side.
At around 7 p.m., the Pagangan detachment in Aleosan, North Cotabato was
attacked by 20 fully armed men. The firefight lasted for five minutes.
Later at 9:50 p.m. of the same day, the Rangaban detachment in Midsayap,
North Cotabato was attacked by 150 men under MILF commander Lumenda
Lanson. The attackers also looted the local residents of grocery and
food as well as motorcycles.
These attacks came two days after MILF forces attacked an Army
detachment in Matum, Saranggani and another Army camp in Tugaig, Shariff
Kabunsuan. Despite these attacks and blatant violations by the MILF
peace talks, Lt Gen Victor Ibrado, Army Chief reminded his troops to
remain vigilant and to continue to respect the primacy of the peace
process.
