Troops recover firearms in Capiz encounter
The Philippine Army troops recovered several high-powered firearms
following an encounter with 13 fully armed New People's Army rebels in a
20-minute exchange of fire at Sitio Tinabasan, Barangay Buri, Tapaz,
Capiz at 4:30 p.m. on September 26.
The operation involved members of the Army's 47th Infantry Battalion led
by PFC Franklin Catamin who was up against NPA rebels under Francisco
Balois alias Tonying of the Territorial Platoon, Central Front
Committee, Komiteng Rehiyon sa Panay .
Troops recovered a carbine with magazine, an Ingram rifle with magazine,
an improvised explosive device, a rifle grenade, ammunition for Shotgun,
and four backpacks containing communist terrorist documents.
No casualty was reported on the government troops, while undetermined on
the NPA rebels.
The troops pursued the NPA rebels who withdrew toward southeast to the
direction of Barangays Buri and Siya, all of Tapaz, Capiz. #
