10 LMG members surrender to Army troops
Ten lawless Moro Islamic Liberation Front (LMG) group members under the
102nd Base Command discreetly surrendered to the 43rd Infantry Battalion
under Lt Col Juvymax Uy on February 2 in the hinterlands of Lanao del
Norte.
Reports reaching the Army Chief Lt Gen Victor S Ibrado disclosed that
the group also yielded a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), two B40 RPG, an
M16 rifle, eight M1 Garand and assorted ammos.
The identities of said surrenderees were however withheld for public
release. They have given their consent to help authorities track LMG
commander Abdulrahman Macapaar also known as Commander Bravo. Commander
Bravo and his men were responsible for the spate of violence in the
provinces of North Cotabato, Lanao del Norte and Sarangani in the past
months that resulted to the death of innocent civilians, displacement of
residents, and the destruction of properties.
The surrender was the result of intensive intelligence operations. At
the moment, commander Bravo is on the run. The group is being tracked by
the intelligence community, with the military’s relentless combat
operations aimed at neutralizing the remaining forces of the LMGs.
The Philippine Army meanwhile ensures that any attempt to spread
violence in Mindanao will not be successful and that the lawless MILF
group will not be able to repeat its previous atrocities. #
