Army troops defuse 3 bombs in Maguindanao
Army troops defused three improvised explosive devices (IED) in separate
incidents in Maguindanao on January 12.
The first IED was found and defused by PFCs Hubert A. Pauyon and Servino
Devibar of the Army's 6th Infantry Battalion in Brgy. Taviran, Datu Odin
Sinsuat (DOS), Maguindanao at 7:20 a.m., while they were conducting
route security operations. Meanwhile, two more IEDs were also defused by
SSg Consibit of the Army's 62nd Explosive and Ordnance Team (EOT), Army
Support Command using water disruptor. The IEDs were found under a
cemented chair near the house of SPO4 Reynaldo Chu at the boundaries of
Brgys Awang and Daiwan of DOS, Maguindanao at 5:30 p.m. same day.
Reports reaching the Army Chief Lt. Gen. Victor S. Ibrado disclosed the
area where the two IEDs were found is where the illegal last 2/3 betting
game is being held. All recovered items were brought to the concerned
Army units for documentation and proper disposition.
Though the Philippine Army cannot yet pinpoint the terrorist group
responsible for plotting of IEDs, we would like to reiterate that NPA/
MILF terrorists have always been violating the International
Humanitarian Law (IHL) and the Geneva Convention by using illegal IEDs.
Yet, they are always the first to invoke IHL and the Geneva Convention
when trying to point out infractions of the Armed Forces.
A few days ago, the NPA terrorist group admitted that they were behind
the explosion of two roadside bombs on Sunday that wounded Masbate
Governor Elisa Kho and a security aide.
Despite giving an apology by saying that the victims were not the real
targets of the attack, the NPA should be held liable for this. This did
not happen once but for so many times now and yet the NPA think they can
easily get away with this, while some human rights groups and other
leftist organizations are callous about the issue. As these terrorist
groups do not choose their victims, so do the landmines whether men in
uniform or defenseless civilians. Thus, the public is reminded to take
extra precautions and to report any suspicious baggage or persons in the
area. #
