3 NPA leaders arrested in Samar

CAMP Juan Ponce , Sumoroy, Catarman, N. Samar - Three suspected New People's Army terrorists were arrested by the members of the Army's 20th Infantry Battalion at 11:50 a.m. of January 27 in Brgy Urdaneta, Lavezares, Northern Samar by virtue of warrants of arrest.

Reports reaching the Army Chief Lt. Gen. Victor S. Ibrado coming from Maj. Melecio Y. Castillo, public affairs officer of 803rd Infantry Brigade identified the suspects as Remegio N. Burac alias Luis/ Kipo, Secretary of Eastern Samar Provincial Party Committee (ESPPC) and North East Front, Eastern Samar Provincial Party Committee, Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee (EVRPC); Felicidad L. Caparal alias Miray/Reda/Nancy, Education Staff of Northern Samar Provincial Party Committee (NSPPC); and Marites J. Cosenas alias Karen/Inday, Finance and Logistic Officer of Front 2 (F2), NSPPC.

Incidentally, the three NPA leaders just came from a trip to Manila because Burac is undergoing medication for his arthritis while Caparal and Cosenas Karen were tasked in food preparation for the Kilusan ng Magbubukid sa Pilipinas (KMP) in the just concluded Mendiola Massacre Anniversary Rally on January 21-22, 2009.

The three revealed that in white areas, foreign grants using legal organization is one of their biggest sources of funds aside from the Permit to Campaign (PTC).

"The capture of the three NPA leaders is a big blow to the underground movement particularly in the Samar Island. I would like to commend the troops involved in this operation especially during the random checkpoint," said Col. Eduardo D. Del Rosario, commander of the Army's 803rd Infantry Brigade.

Burac was apprehended by virtue of Warrant of Arrest for Multiple Murder, Robbery with Multiple Homicide. Caparal, on the other hand, was apprehended by virtue of Warrant of Arrest for the Crime of Murder. #
