Army troops defuse 5 landmines in Surigao
Five landmines were defused by the members of the Army's 8th Surigao del
Sur Cafgu Active Auxiliary (CAA) Company led by CAA Perciniple B.
Mayordomo at 4:30 p.m. on February 1 at Sitio Greenfield, Brgy. Sta.
Juana, Tagbina, Surigao del Sur.
Reports reaching the Army Chief Lt. Gen. Victor S. Ibrado disclosed that
the troops were clearing the area when they found the landmines in a
container, allegedly owned by Front Committee 14, North Eastern Mindanao
Regional Committeee (NEMRC).
A squad of Alpha Company of 36IB under 2Lt. Jumagdao rushed to scene and
recovered the landmines.
The NPA terrorists have always been violating the International
Humanitarian Law (IHL) and the Geneva Convention by using landmines or
improvised explosive devices, with an aim to destroy private and even
public properties. Yet, they are always the first to invoke IHL and the
Geneva Convention when trying to point out infractions of the Armed
Forces.
Likewise, the Philippine Army is reminding the public to be extra
vigilant, cautious, and to report suspicious-looking items to the
authorities, as these terror groups do not choose their victims, so do
the IEDs whether men in uniform or defenseless civilians.
Meanwhile in Cotabato, an abandoned NPA camp was found by the operating
troops of the Army's 57th Infantry Battalion led by 1Lt. Abellanosa and
2Lt. Domingo at 11:27 a.m. on February 3 at Sitio Dulay, Brgy. Bacong,
Tulunan.
The camp has an estimated land area of 500 square meters and can
accommodate 80 persons. Troops recovered six improvised beddings and a
list of their duty details.
Troops believed that the NPA terrorists under Emmanuel Fernandez alias
Bobo, commanding officer of Regional Operation Command (ROC), Far South
Mindanao Region (FSMR) and Felix Amodia alias Jing, commanding officer
of Guerilla Front 72, FSMR, who were encountered by a platoon of the
Army’s 57th IB under 2Lt. Domingo last February 2, 2009. #
