18 NPA camps found in December 2008 alone; 7 more this month

Continuous and intensive military clearing operations have resulted to the Army troops' discovery of 18 New People's Army (NPA) camps in December 2008 and seven more found this month alone, leaving the NPA terrorists no choice but to disperse, return to the main stream, and start their lives anew.

For this month, two big camps were found by the Army troops in two separate operations. The first 60-person capacity NPA camp was found at 11 a.m. on January 25 by a section of Charlie Company, 67th Infantry Battalion of the 10th Infantry Division (ID) led by 2Lt. Edwin C. Soquil at Sitio Sicaa, Brgy. Ngan, Compostela Valley. It can accommodate 60 persons. Troops recovered clothing, socks, stockings, pail, and medical paraphernalia. While the second 60-person capacity camp was found in Compostela Valley by a platoon from Bravo company, 25th IB led by 2Lts. Rhyan B. Batchar and Soreno. It has six bunkers and three outposts.

This was followed by a 30-person capacity NPA camp in Brgy. Imelda, Las Navas, Northern Samar. It was found by the operating troops of 2nd platoon, Charlie company, 63rd IB, 8th ID led by 1Lt. Noriel D. Tayaban at 8:20 a.m. on January 12. The camp has 25 bunkers and was abandoned three months ago.

Troops also found a 25-person and two 20-person capacity NPA camps. The 25-person capacity camp in Brgy. San Antonio, Las Navas, Northern Samar was found again by 2nd platoon, Charlie company, 63rd IB, 8th ID under 1Lt. Noriel D. Tayaban at 1:30 p.m. on January 7; while the 20-person capacity camp in Brgy. Sto. Nino, Talaingod, Davao del Norte was found by 2nd platoon of Charlie Company, 60th Infantry Battalion of 10th ID led by 2Lt. Lou-Jim C. Liberato at 7:40 a.m. on January 24; and another 20-person capacity camp was found in Brgy. Mahayahay, San Luis, Agusan del Sur by a section of Bravo company, 26th IB, 4th ID under 2Lt. Jastine B. Aguedo at 5 p.m. on January 10. It has 10 bunkers and was abandoned three months ago.

In December 2008, Army troops were able to discover 18 NPA camps. The biggest camp was found by a platoon led by 2Lt. Danilo B. Mutoc of 11th IB, 3rd ID at Sitio Lupo, Brgy. Humay-humay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental that can accommodate 80 persons.

According to the guide, who is a member of Youth Movement in the area, the camp was vacated due to the intensive military clearing operations in the area prior to the conduct of mass base operation in the complex of Brgy. Tacpao, Plabnas and Imelda, all of Guihulngan City.

Troops continued clearing the area for other possible camp discoveries.

The continuous discovery and destruction of every camp have degraded considerably the capability of the NPA terrorists to launch atrocities against the local populace and extortion activities to business establishments. #
