4 NPA rebels arrested, 9 high-powered firearms recovered
Eight months before the June 2010 deadline set by President Gloria
Macapagal Arroyo to defeat communist insurgency, the Philippine Army
continues to gain headway as intensified operations and nation-building
activities resulted to the apprehension of four New People’s Army rebels
and the recovery of nine high-powered firearms in two different
incidents over the weekend.
Reports reaching the Philippine Army headquarters disclosed that members
of the Special Forces apprehended four heavily armed New People’s Army
rebels in Sitio Sagpang, Brgy Siuton, Magallanes, Sorsogon on November
7. The apprehended rebels were identified as Beato Latusa @ Benjie, Nilo
Escullar @ Omar, Amadio Grayda @ Jr and Ernesto Labadia @ Ran. Recovered
from them were two M16 rifles, one M14 rifle, one Ingram, and various
ammunition.
In a separate incident in Aurora, elements of the 48th Infantry
Battalion recovered five M16 rifles and two claymore mines from the
NPA’s arms cache in Sitio Tambalungan, Brgy Nipoo, Dinalungan.
This development can be attributed to the continuing commitment of the
Philippine Army to deliver peace and development in the country, coupled
with the cooperation exhibited by the people, who themselves denounce
the atrocious activities perpetrated by the communist movement. #
