Official Philippine Army Press Release

Press Release No.: 03-005

Date Released: 09 Nov 2009

6th Infantry Division turns 22

The 6th Infantry (KAMPILAN) Division, located at Camp Siongco Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao, celebrates a historical milestone as it commemorates its 22nd Founding Anniversary, with Army Chief Lt Gen Delfin N Bangit as the guest of honor and speaker.

The 6th ID is one of the Philippine Army's Infantry divisions in Central Mindanao that is concerned with internal security operations against the New People's Army (NPA) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), as well as counter-terrorism operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI).

Tasked to restore peace and order in Central Mindanao and ensure that the people live in peace, the division was able to curb communist insurgency, thwart threats posed by the lawless MILF groups, and bring to the bar of justice the Abu Sayyaf bandits. After twenty-two years of existence, the 6th Infantry Division has delivered remarkable accomplishments.

The 6th Infantry Division traces its roots from the former 6th Infantry Brigade (Provisional), 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, which was activated in order to provide command and control to combat units in Central Mindanao tasked to break the initial onslaught of the MILF uprising. On October 24, 1987, the infantry brigade was upgraded into a regular division and designated as the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division pursuant to General Order No. 616 dated 19 November 1987.

As it journeys toward its 23rd year, the KAMPILAN division remains committed to serve the people in Central Mindanao. #
