Official Philippine Army Press Release

Press Release No.: 03-010

Date Released: 12 Nov 2009

1 NPA rebel killed, 3 arrested in COMVAL encounter

A New People's Army rebel was killed, while three others were captured in an encounter with the government troops in Compostela Valley on November 11.

Reports reaching the Philippine Army headquarters disclosed that elements of the 5th Scout Ranger Company, 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion encountered more or less five NPA rebels in Brgy Lahi, Maragusan, Compostela Valley, resulting to one enemy killed and the capture of three others.

The Army troops also recovered high-powered firearms which include three M16 rifles and an M14 rifle, various ammunition, and subversive documents from the encounter site.

The continuous arrests and surrenders of NPA rebels and the neutralization of their camps have weakened the rebel group considerably. With only eight months remaining before the June 2010 deadline, the Philippine Army keeps pace in delivering lasting peace and stability in the country this 2010 and beyond. #
