Army gains more momentum
As the areas affected by the typhoons begin to prosper with different
sectors and Philippine Army's relief efforts, more surrenders has been
reported for the past few days, proving that the Philippine Army is
gaining more momentum both in relief and nation-building operations.
Reports reaching the Army Headquarters revealed that various New
People's Army (NPA) members in different parts of the
country-particularly in South Cotabato , Davao del Sur, and Quezon-are
turning their backs on the rebel group. In South Cotabato , a cerain
Reynaldo Ellina voluntarily turned himself over to elements of the 27th
Infantry Battalion at Brgy. San Jose ' Koronadal City while a former
rebel who identified himself as Ronilo Ompo surrendered to troops of the
Task Force Davao of the 10th Infantry Division at Brgy. Sibulan, Toril,
Davao City . In addition, a former NPA local officer, Ricardo Alama,
surrendered to members of the Intelligence Operatives of the 2nd
Infantry Division at Ibabang Palale, Tayabas, Quezon.
As normal citizens who returned to government fold, the former NPA
members are currently being taken care and under the custody of the
concerned Army units for debriefing. Also, they shall be candidates for
the financial and livelihood assistance through the Social Integration
Program.
Indeed, the Philippine Army is on the hype of its nation-building and
relief operations. With the coming of the 2010 deadline, the Army
promises to everything but cease in order to achieve the Army mission of
delivering lasting peace and sustainable development to the country.#
