Army ACE Battalion Deploys to Laguna

Early this morning, a company of soldiers belonging to the Philippine Army Multi-Role Force Battalion also known as the Army Contingent to Emergency (ACE) Unit was sent to the province of Laguna to conduct disaster rescue and relief operations to affected municipalities of Pagsanjan, Lumban and Sta Cruz brought about by Typhoon "Santi". The army troopers left the Headquarters of the Philippine Army in Fort Bonifacio early this morning to augment the disaster response units of the 2nd Infantry Divisions in the affected areas in Laguna. Fresh from their disaster response training, the ACE Battalion was equipped with four rubber boats, a motorized fiberglass boat, mobility assets and other life saving devices.

The Multi-Role Force Battalion which was only activated last October 16, is the primary unit of the Philippine Army in addressing Disaster Rescue and Relief Operations concern not only in Metro Manila but in other parts of the country as well. It can assume other tasks such as ensuring peace and order in times of disturbance, performing community development and nation-building activities and fighting rebels in different parts of the country. With the undeniable tragedy that took place during the past weather disturbances in the country, the Philippine Army shall not stop to improve itself to be of better service to its countrymen.
