5th Army Store opens in Cebu
As a fulfillment of the Philippine Army's commitment to serve its
soldiers better, another Army Store has been opened by Army chief Lt Gen
Delfin N Bangit in Camp Lapu-Lapu, Cebu City yesterday.
The Army Store in Cebu, the fifth to be activated following the ones in
Cotabato, Cagayan de Oro, Capiz, and Nueva Ecija, will cater to the
needs of the Army troops based in the Visayas region, particularly that
which is covered by the 8th and the 3rd Infantry Divisions.
The Army Store, which is the first ever supply store of its kind in the
AFP, offers the Army personnel with easy access to selected Combat
Clothing and Individual Equipment (CCIEs) including combat boots, sets
of Battle Dress Attire, OD T-shirts, and OD athletic short pants. It
uses a Direct Exchange (DX) system wherein soldiers could instantly
replace their worn out government-issued CCIEs with new ones. To date,
the Command is already in the process of expanding the lineup of CCIEs
available through the DX system, as rubber shoes and vehicle tires are
already being procured. Other CCIEs that are not included in the DX
System are available in the Army Stores in reasonable prices.
In the coming months, more and more Army stores are expected to be
launched until all infantry divisions are supplied with the convenience
of DX.
Moving towards the decisive end of communist insurgency by 2010, the
Philippine Army sees the importance of taking care of the morale and
welfare of its men for them to focus more on the mission of delivering
lasting peace and sustainable development in the country. Again, a
skilled, disciplined, and better-equipped Army soldier is the best
weapon of the Philippine Army against threats to national stability and
development. #
