More rebels renounce armed struggle


Alongside the relief operations and clean-up drive of the Philippine Army in Metro Manila, and in the provinces of Laguna, Pampanga, Rizal, and Bulacan is the intensified operations and nation-building activities of the Philippine Army resulting to the continuous surrender of members of local terrorist groups.

Reports reaching the Philippine Army headquarters disclosed that three New People's Army rebels, including a political officer, surrendered to the elements of the 39th Infantry Battalion in Brgy. Malawanit, Magsaysay, Davao del Sur.

The surrendererors were identified as Jhony Camag @ Rambo, Randy Salega @ Rusty, and Antonio Camag @ Rey, all were members of the local terrorist group operating in Southern Mindanao Region. The said surrender is the latest in a series of surrenders of local terrorist group members in the province of Davao del Sur.

Meanwhile, 60 NPA rebels surrendered to various Army field units in the country for the month of September alone, bringing to 417 the number of NPA rebels who renounced armed struggle in the last nine months.

As agents of peace, the Philippine Army shall continue to conduct peaceful and development endeavors all over the country with the end in view of providing an environment of peace and stability conducive to national development
