Army remains unshaken
by typhoons
The Philippine Army has been working extra hard these days with the
relief operations for the victims of the past typhoons simultaneous with
the nation-building missions of local Army field units on various areas
in the country. Recently, reports reaching the Philippine Army
Headquarters reveal that success has been consistent in the operations
conducted in different provinces.
In Catanduanes, elements of the 83rd Infantry Battalion (83IB) of the
9th Infantry Division (9ID) have encountered a number of armed local
rebels in the area yesterday, October 6, at around 7:30 am. They engaged
in a fierce firefight wherein no one was killed nor wounded from 83IB
while casualties from the rebels were yet to be determined. Also,
high-powered firearms were recovered from the local rebels while
gunfight was ongoing. Said firearms are handed over to the headquarters
of 9ID.
Moreso, a couple of surrenders has been reported from Kalinga and
Mindoro Occidental. A certain Willy Liw-ag voluntarily surrendered to
elements of the 501st Brigade in Tabuk, Kalinga, abandoning the rebel
movement for a more peaceful life. Meanwhile, a former-rebel who
identified himself as Reynaldo Gregorio surrendered to elements of the
2nd Infantry Division in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. Both
former-rebels are currently under custodial debriefing.
These triumphs in various provinces prove that the Army units in all
parts of the country are working as hard as the Army men working
tirelessly in the relief and rehabilitation operations in Metro Manila
and other areas affected by "Ondoy" and "Pepeng."# |
