1,500 Army Soldiers Troop to Marikina
Marikina City-More than 1,500 Army troopers, armed with cleaning
paraphernalia led by no less than Army chief Lt Gen Delfin N Bangit,
flocked to Marikina City for a clean-up drive. This activity is part of
the AFP clean-up campaign directed by the Chief of Staff Gen Victor S
Ibrado, in coordination with the National Disaster Coordinating Council
and local officials in the city.
The Philippine Army contingent is composed of personnel from the 2nd
Infantry Division, the Headquarters Philippine Army, Philippine Army
Contingents to Haiti and Liberia, Army Reservists, Army's Engineering
Battalions, and the Civil-Military Operations Group totaling to more
than 1,500 soldiers taking part in the mission. The Philippine Army
contingent was divided into six groups and were deployed to different
areas in the city, namely Nangka and Balubad, Fortune and San Miguel,
Malanday, City Hall and Market Area, Sto. Nino, and Provident Village.
The Army contingent cleaned the mudded streets and dispose of the fallen
trees, scattered garbage, and other debris.
In the onslaught of the tropical depression "Ondoy," Marikina City has
been one of the most affected areas in the country where the flood has
destroyed millions worth of properties. From rescue and relief
operations, the Philippine Army engages in another activity aiming at
restoring the normalcy, safety, and security in the city of Marikina.
This simply proves that the Philippine Army is in service of the
Filipinos, not just in the battlefield, but also in every challenges the
country faces. # |
