Monument for Laguna Heroes

Today, September 30, during the Military Honors conducted for Private First Class Venancio V. Ancheta, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief-of-Staff Gen. Victor S. Ibrado aired his condolences for the family and loved ones, not just of Pfc Ancheta, but of the two Army men with five CAFGU Active Auxiliary who offered their lives in the rescue operations during the onslaught of tropical depression "Ondoy" in the province of Laguna.

"Nagluluksa and buong Sandatahang Lakas ng Pilipinas," he adds, proving that the whole AFP mourns the death of these noble and selfless heroes. MGen Jorge Segovia, Commander of the 2nd Infantry Division, for his part planned to build the monument at the very site where these Laguna heroes offered their lives in saving others.

It can be recalled that Pfc Ancheta died after being hit by a log while crossing the rampaging flood and carrying a man on his back, whereas Cpl Adriano Regua died in an attempt at rescuing one of his men by being swept away by the flood current while his family was also being rescued by Army soldiers in Tanay, Rizal. "Pinagpupugay namin ang kabayanihang ipinamalas nila," Gen. Ibrado furthers, saying that we should all give meaning to Pfc Ancheta's death that further inspired his team to rescue more than 600 residents. #
