Albay Hacking Left 1 Militiaman Dead

CAMP ELIAS ANGELES, Pili, Camarines Sur - An off-duty militiaman who was spending his vacation with his family was hacked to death by his own brother in Guinobatan Albay yesterday, a military report said.

Col Leoncio Cirunay, Commander of the 22nd Infantry Battalion, said that Francisco Omnes, 33, a member of the 4th Albay CAFGU Company, was hacked to death by his own brother identified as a certain Celso Omnes, 31, while the latter was resting inside his house in Sitio Quigano of Dona Mercedes village at around 2:00pm yesterday (June 30).

"CAA Omnes and his wife, Glenda, were lying on a hammock together when his brother, Celso barged in carrying a jungle bolo. Without saying a word, the intruder hacked Omnes to death," said Cirunay.

Cirunay added that Glenda also sustained wounds on her left hand while trying to defend herself from the bolo attack. The attacker immediately fled the scene after carrying out the gruesome crime.

The victims were immediately brought to a local hospital but Omnes was declared dead hours later by attending physicians due to his severe head wounds. His wife, Glenda, is now recuperating from her minor injuries.

LtCol Tony Ladra, the legal officer of the 9th Infantry Division, has coordinated with the family of the victims and the PNP to assist in the filing of criminal charges against the accused whose motive of the killing was a land dispute within the family.
