NPA Rebel Yields in Surigao Province
CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City --- An NPA rebel voluntarily
surrendered to the Army's 30th Infantry Battalion of 4th Infantry
"Diamond" Division at Barangay Hanagdong, Malimono, Surigao del Sur on
29 November 2010.
A certain Juan Gulapo a member of the Milisya Ng Bayan Pang Edukasyon/liaison/Komiteng
Tig-organisa, and Samahang Partido Pangpolitika (SPP) 168 of the CPP/NPA/NDF
of the Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) yielded to 1Lt
Jeffry Lumague of Charlie Company, 30th IB.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Erwin Rommel P Lamzon, Commanding
Officer of the 30th IB that said rebel returnee was identified operating
in the eastern portion of the Agusan and Surigao Provinces.
It was also learned that Gulapo surrendered to the Army bringing with
him an improvised shot gun and assorted subversive documents.
"Exhausted, tired, and disillusioned of being used as a puppet and a
pawn of the communists' rotten ideology," LtCol Lamzon described the
sentiment of the returnee.
Gulapo was brought to the Battalion headquarters for proper debriefing
and to provide him protection.
MGen Victor A Felix, Commander, 4ID, PA said, "We are happy to receive
the surrenderee and rest assured that 4ID will provide assistance to
help him start a new life back to the folds of the government."
MGen Felix also emphasized peaceful efforts to persuade the rebels to
abandon armed struggle.
