Official Philippine Army Press Release

Press Release No. 03-049

Date Released: 01 January 2010

Army’s 4 ACEs For 2010

The Philippine Army has four ACE's for its thrust this year. According to Army Chief LTGEN Delfin N Bangit, these four ACE's are - Army's Concern for the Environment, Army's Concern for Engineering, Army’s Combat Excellence and Advocacy for Credible Elections.

The Army's Concern for the Environment is the commands advocacy to address climate change by contributing to the overall effort of the government in preventing or mitigating the effects of natural calamities. It is also the army's commitment to participate in any endeavor or undertaking geared towards preserving the environment.

The Army's Concern for Engineering on the other hand involves the organization's enhancement of its engineering capability to help in the developmental and reconstruction efforts of the government, especially during these times when the country is still recuperating from the destruction wrought by recent disasters that struck the nation. In line with this, the Philippine Army would be dedicating 1,700 troops solely for developmental and reconstruction efforts. Likewise, a large chunk of the budget of the command will be allocated for the procurement of engineering equipment such as bulldozers, graders, etc.

Third, is the Army's Combat Excellence wherein the Philippine Army recognizes war fighting to be its core competency. While it's true that it is actively participating in community development programs and nation building activities, its main core competency remains to be war fighting. LTGEN Bangit said "Never forget that we are after all soldiers. Now, we fight for peace. Instead of the enemies as targets, our target is the people. We help them, work for them, work with them and serve them. We will continue to dedicate ourselves, our lives for the preservation of peace and democracy."

The last ACE is the Advocacy for Credible Elections. "We will do everything to contribute to a very peaceful and credible elections. The Philippine Army will not participate in any partisan politics, except to exercise our right of suffrage. We will execute legal orders by COMELEC and higher office. The Philippine Army remains as a force that will quell any armed group who intends to disturb the conduct of peaceful elections. This nation has to move on," the Army Chief said before the troops.

These four ACEs would be the guide of the Philippine Army in the fulfillment of its mission and mandate to provide a safe and secure environment for the Filipino people conducive to progress and development.
