Official Philippine Army Press Release

Press Release No. 03-055

Date Released: 07 January 2010

2 Civilians Wounded in NPA Attack

Two civilians were wounded, including a nine-month old child, in an attack perpetrated by the New People's Army rebels in Infanta, Quezon about two days ago.

Reports reaching the Philippine Army headquarters disclosed that local terrorist group members operating in the province of Quezon harassed the elements of the 16th Infantry Battalion while the latter is securing a Flagship project of the government at Sitio Kalaw, Brgy Magsaysay, Infanta.

Firefight lasted for almost 10 minutes which resulted to the wounding of three soldiers. Two civilians also suffered bruises from stone splinters caused by enemy burst of fires from grenade launcher.

This attack manifests the anti-development nature of the NPA as it was carried out against soldiers who are engaged in development initiatives in the countryside. Meanwhile, the Philippine Army shall continue to secure the different projects for the benefit of the people especially in the far-flung communities so as to ensure unhampered development of the government. #
