2 NPA rebels killed
in Sorsogon encounter
Early this morning, January 11, two New People's Army (NPA) rebels were
killed in an encounter in Brgy. Ginangra, Magallanes, Sorsogon.
Reports reaching the Philippine Army Headquarters revealed that elements
of the 49th Infantry Battalion (49IB) were conducting security
operations in the area when they encountered more or less 30 armed NPA
rebels who immediately engaged them in a gunfight. After 30 minutes, the
NPA rebels disengaged and withdrew, leaving two dead comrades, war
materiel, and subversive documents. The army troops recovered from the
NPA bandits five M16 rifles and a carbine rifle, as a result of the
encounter.
There was no reported fatality on the government troops. However, 49IB
suffered two wounded in action. The wounded soldiers are currently being
treated while additional troops are scouring the area to secure the
residents from any NPA atrocities.
With the June 2010 deadline, the Philippine Army shall continue to
deliver success and remain steadfast in their obligations of bringing
peace and stability to all parts of the country.#
